Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 26th season of Music in the Morning!
Music in the Morning has created a concert experience that is unlike any other. From the warmth of friends meeting in the lobby over a coffee and treats, to the quality of the performances and breadth of music explored, MITM remains one of the city’s artistic treasures.
The main Concert Series opens with superstar pianist Jon Kimura Parker, marking his first appearance for our
audience—a concert that is sure to sell out quickly!
June’s popular Composers & Coffee series continues with explorations of the late string quartets of Beethoven with
the esteemed St. Lawrence String Quartet, as well as two special programs focused on Chopin. Engage your heart and
mind as June Goldsmith leads the artists in conversation that sheds new light on the music performed.
Rush Hour has moved to a new home and new format. This four-concert series in the stunning CBC Radio’s Studio One, is an informal 50-minute concert hosted by CBC radio personality Bill Richardson, and recorded for future broadcast.
The Snow Queen, an award-winning musical adaptation of the beloved Hans Christian Anderson tale, is presented for audiences of all ages. This family-friendly production blends vivid imagery and movement with a narrator and string quartet. Bring your children or grandchildren, and share in the magic.
I look forward to having you with us for our exciting season.
Sincerely,
Barry Shiffman
Executive Artistic Director

About June Goldsmith, Founder and Artistic Director
“…the respect artistic director June Goldsmith shows for the audience in her diverse choices of imaginative challenging artists and programs—how can the series be anything but a hit?”—Muriel Kauffman, The Independent
Twenty-four years ago, June Goldsmith, a musician, music educator, and entrepreneur, founded Music in the Morning. She believed classical music that challenged, educated as well as entertained, would find a following at 10.30 in the morning. June has created a niche with her unique morning concert format, offering challenging programming to an audience which prefers its cultural experiences during the day. She has a loyal and ever-increasing following, proof of her commitment to her dream.
Goldsmith, who has a Master of Arts in music from Stanford University, is revered in the community for her willingness to share her love of music and for her support of upcoming and established artists. In November 2002, in recognition of her contribution to music, June was inducted into the British Columbia Entertainment Hall of Fame. On March 11th, 2005 in Ottawa, June received the Order of Canada for her long time contribution to music in Canada. In June 2005 she received the Order of British Columbia for her contribution to classical music in the province. In 2004, the University of British Columbia established the June Goldsmith Scholarship in Music to pay tribute to her achievements as impresario, educator and musician. She is committed to presenting a varied line-up of music from opera to ballet to chamber music, and to reaching out to all ages through performances, lectures, and commissioned works. She appears regularly on CBC Radio’s North x Northwest.
