Featured by CBC Q, The National, and the Discovery Channel, the JUNO-nominated Afiara Quartet continues to expand what it means to be a performing ensemble in the 21st century. From its inception in 2006, Afiara was built on the Spanish word fiar, meaning trust. It is with this spirit of trust that Afiara moves forward as a collective through its pursuit of beauty, meaning, and growth as musicians and ambassadors. As Executive Producers of Spin Cycle, the Afiara Quartet is “setting trends, not following them” (Classicaliszt) in a performance hailed as “one of the most attention-grabbing concerts of the year” (Toronto Star).

A dynamic and award-winning ensemble, the Afiara has been described as “a revelation” (La Presse) with performances balancing “intensity and commitment” and “frequent moments of tenderness” (Montreal Gazette). The American Record Guide raved, “The Afiara completely changed my pulse, breathing, and inner rhythms; when I went to speak, I choked up.” Afiara is winner of the Young Canadian Musicians Award, Concert Artist Guild, Munich ARD, and Banff International String Quartet Competitions, including the latter’s Szekely Prize for the best interpretation of Beethoven.
