For the whole family
February 24-26, 2011
A musical adaptation of one of the world's greatest fairy tales.
“The Snow Queen held the audience of adults and children rapt in Anderson’s magical world where hope and love can dispel the icy darkness.”
—EYEWEEKLY
Music in the Morning is thrilled to present this hugely successful multimedia production which will engage the whole family in the magic of music and storytelling. Based on Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale of adventure, The Snow Queen blends vivid imagery and movement, with the words and music of the late Canadian composer Patrick Cardy.
The story of a friendship between a little boy and girl, Kay and Gerda, and the beautiful
but cruel ice maiden, The Snow Queen weaves a powerful magical spell. When Kay is lured from his home, his friend Gerda sets out on an epic journey to rescue him. As she searches, Gerda encounters a series of strangers who help her find the Snow Queen’s icy palace, but will she manage to set Kay free?
The Snow Queen features Toronto-based performer, director and producer of theatre, Alon Nashman, and one of Canada’s most exciting young ensembles, the Cecilia String Quartet. The award-winning Nashman has worked with theatres across Canada and was named Number One Theatre Artist of 2008 by NOW Magazine.
The Snow Queen is presented in partnership with the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre.
