Valerie Li, violin

Valerie Li is a founding member of the JUNO-nominated Afiara Quartet, winner of the Concert Artists Guild International Competition and the Young Canadian Musicians Award, as well as prizes at the Munich ARD and the Banff International String Quartet Competition. Ms. Li has toured throughout the world, performing at celebrated venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Amsterdam’s Muziekgebouw.

Ms. Li received her Bachelor of Music from the Peabody Institute, her Master of Music from the New England Conservatory, and her Artist Diploma from the Juilliard School. Her teachers include Miriam Fried, Herbert Greenberg, and Gwen Thompson, with whom she studied in her hometown of Vancouver.

As a member of the Afiara Quartet, Ms. Li has held residencies at San Francisco State University and The Juilliard School, serving as teaching assistant to the Alexander and Juilliard String Quartets, and most recently as the Fellowship Quartet at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music. She currently teaches chamber music at the RCM’s Glenn Gould School and the Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists, as well as at the University of Toronto.
