Exploring the Bach Cello Suites

with Joseph Elworthy

Although Bach’s cello suites are among the best known works of classical music, they remain shrouded in mystery: no original manuscript, no known date of composition. For whom were they written? Were they actually written for the cello?

Vancouver Academy of Music Executive Director, Joseph Elworthy , who has studied, performed, and recorded the suites, unravels some of the mystery behind the work. Featuring some of Vancouver’s most promising young cellists performing selected movements, Elworthy provides insight into what makes this music so extraordinary.
